Film Screening of “Enemies of the People”
7:00 pm, Tuesday, April 17, 2012, Faculty Staff Lounge

Please join us for a film screening of “Enemies of the People” an award winning thought-provoking 2010 documentary that explores the often overlooked history of the Cambodian genocide, also known as the Killing Fields. Nearly 2 million Cambodians suffered at the hands of the Khmer Rouge, an agrarian Communist party who took control of Cambodia in the 1970s and ran what is regarded as one of the twentieth century’s most brutal regimes. In the film, the men and women who perpetrated the massacres—ranging from the foot-soldiers to the party’s ideological leader, Nuon Chea, also known as Brother Number Two—break a 30-year silence to give testimony never before heard or seen. The screening will end with a discussion and performance by guest speaker praCh Ly, a well-known Cambodian American rapper who produced original music for the film and whose personal experiences with this tragedy color his music and have led him on tours to lecture and perform at various college campuses. praCh is from Long Beach, California, and is currently working on the sequel to “Enemies of the People” as executive producer, with original directors Rob Lemkin and Thet Sambath.
